DEV MINUTES #8 – MAP CHANGES

Hello everyone! Devs here again!

Today we are covering the topic that is being updated from beta version to the full release – we are talking about a map. There are a lot of things that has changed, but we’ll cover the most important of them.

One of the things that has happened to most of the states was a little reshape. New shape of these states makes map at least a bit prettier. We worked on improving the details on a small resolution and tried to match the real borders as much as possible.
You can see one of the major changes in the New World, that is entire coast state gone. It was pretty hard to click on it, so it was removed.

SHORT INTERVIEW WITH BETA TESTER

Today we had a short interview with one of our beta testers, Pete. Pete was very excited for Market Dominion from the beginning and he was happy to start beta testing when beta came out, almost two weeks ago.

Interviewer: What is your experience with the Closed Beta so far?

Pete: So far the closed beta has been loads of fun, the game itself is simple and easy to learn, but really fun to play and once I picked it up I could not stop playing.

I: Is there something unique about your experience with beta?

P: Whilst there wasn’t much unique I did, I did keep on winning the game without much effort, once I realized how it is played. So I decided to start setting myself little challenges, like trying to get 60% or more Market Share within 25 years. My guess is that these little challenges I set will be a full part of the game as achievements, and truly can’t wait to 100% the game.

I: Do you feel the game is going the right way?

P: I feel like the game is going in a good direction, the developers team is dedicated to providing the players with the best possible experience and it’s clear that there is a lot of passion involved from the developers themselves.

I: Do you feel like the devs will create a good game out of it?

P: In my eyes the game is already good, though I can guarantee that the more polished and improved version that will get released soon will be even greater and loads of fun for all.

I: If you would have to suggest one thing to the devs, what would it be?

P: The game is great fun, but if given the oppurtinity to change one thing about the game it would likely be its complexity. The game so far is simple, but even though it may not be complicated, it is still great fun. With that said, I do like a bit of complexity in my games and can only hope that the devs add more features and tabs and different menus which I can use to control my corporate empire.

DEV MINUTES #5 – MARKET SHARE AND OTHER MODIFIERS

Hey there! Today’s Dev Minutes will be a little different. We aren’t going to talk about something new we’ve worked on, we’re going to discuss older topic in details, and that is how Market Share in this game works. This also will be an episode with less images and more theory, so get ready for some reading!

State Share defines what percentage of a state company has in its direct influence. It is connected with Market Share (or older term Market Domination Percentage) which says how big percentage (part) of the whole market individual states hold.
Both State Share and Market Share are important for the player. The victory condition in Market Dominion is Market Share. Whatever the victorious Market Share value is set for, who first reaches this value, wins.
Example: Decisive Market Share is set to 60%. Whoever first reaches 60%, dominates the market and wins the game.
Decisive Market Share is that victorious value that player needs.

DEV MINUTES #4 – POPULARITY GAIN AND UI

Hey! It’s Dev Minutes #4 time. It took a few days to get some interesting topic to show, so here we are. Also please, stick with us to the end of today’s article, we have an announcement on the end of it. Without extra talking: let’s jump right into the topic!
First we’ll talk about spreading mechanism for the companies, aka popularity gain.

Popularity gain decides how fast company spreads within a state and how fast will it reach for its domination. The main variable that decides on that growth is State Popularity Modifier (SPM) mentioned in earlier Dev Minutes.
